I’ve Stayed at 10+ Disney Hotels — Here’s What’s Actually Worth It

I’ve stayed at 10+ Disney hotels and multiple on-property hotels that aren’t Disney-owned — from value resorts to moderate stays and elevated experiences.

If you’re trying to decide where to stay for your Disney trip, here’s what’s actually worth it — and what depends completely on your travel style.

Best for Budget-Focused Families

Hotels in this category:
Disney’s All-Star Sports, All-Star Movies, and All-Star Music

• Lowest price point on Disney property
• Great option if you plan to spend most of your time in the parks
• Rooms are simple but clean
• Bus transportation only
• Can feel very crowded during cheer and sports events
• Long waits for buses at the end of the night
• Some rooms are a long walk from the main building and bus stop
• Can be loud, especially during peak group travel seasons

If you’re the type of family that just needs a clean place to sleep and plans to rope drop every day, these can absolutely work.

But if you’re sensitive to noise, long transportation lines, or large groups — this is something to seriously consider before booking.

Best for Convenience & Park Access

Hotel: Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

• Walking distance to Epcot
• Boat or walk to Hollywood Studios
• Skyliner access nearby
• Great dining options right outside your room
• Feels noticeably quieter than value resorts
• Can watch fireworks from the BoardWalk area
• No chaotic bus lines when leaving Epcot at night

If you value location over price, this category completely changes your trip.

Being able to walk back to your hotel instead of waiting in long transportation lines makes a bigger difference than most families realize — especially at the end of a long park day with kids.

Best for a Special Occasion Trip (Without Going Full Deluxe)

Hotel: Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort- Gran Destino Tower

• Feels more elegant than most moderate resorts
• The Gran Destino Tower has a modern, upscale vibe
• Club Level can be surprisingly reasonable compared to Deluxe pricing
• Lounge access with breakfast, snacks throughout the day, and light bites in the evening
• Alcoholic drinks included during lounge hours
• Refrigerator stocked with bottled water and canned beverages
• Fireworks views from the lounge (and some rooms, depending on your view)

If you’re celebrating something — or just want a more elevated experience without paying full Deluxe prices — this can feel like a hidden gem.

Club level especially makes the trip feel less chaotic. Having easy access to snacks, drinks, and breakfast without fighting food court crowds changes the entire rhythm of your day.

When Staying On Property (But Not Disney-Owned) Makes Sense

There’s another category that doesn’t get talked about enough — hotels that are located on Disney property but aren’t owned by Disney.

Sometimes, this option makes the most financial sense.

I’ve personally stayed at the Hilton near Disney Springs, and here’s why this type of stay can be smart:

• You can use hotel points to make your stay completely free
• Or pay cash and earn points for future trips
• Breakfast is sometimes included depending on your rate
• Rooms are usually larger than Disney value resorts
• Many rooms have balconies (some even with fireworks views)
• Most offer bus transportation to the parks
• You can walk to Disney Springs for dining, shopping, and entertainment

Here’s the honest trade-off:

• Buses don’t run as frequently as Disney transportation
• You’ll typically pay a resort fee
• It feels less themed and less like the full “Disney bubble”

If you’re trying to maximize hotel rewards, want more space, or value breakfast included, this can be a very strategic option.

You lose a little magic — but you may gain flexibility, savings, and future free stays.

So What’s Actually Worth It?

After staying at 10+ Disney hotels across value, moderate, and non-Disney-owned properties, here’s my honest take:

If your biggest priority is price, the value resorts absolutely work. You’ll still get Disney perks and transportation — just expect crowds and noise during peak seasons.

If your priority is convenience, especially being able to walk back to your hotel at night, resorts like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn completely change your experience. Location matters more than most families realize.

If you want something that feels elevated without paying full Deluxe pricing, Coronado Springs (especially Gran Destino Tower with club level) can be one of the smartest “upgrade your trip” decisions.

And if you’re focused on earning hotel points, maximizing rewards, or getting larger rooms, staying at a non-Disney-owned hotel on property can be a very strategic move.

At the end of the day, there isn’t one “best” Disney hotel.

There’s only the best hotel for your travel style, budget, and priorities.
